It’s time to brush up your Shakespeare! Dr. Carol Silverberg’s dissertation, If It’s Good Enough for Shakespeare: The Bard and the American Musical,comes to life at The Cutler Botanic Garden’s Renaissance Festival on Sunday, July 14th.
The comedic antics start at noon when The Half Light Theater Company takes the stage to perform scenes fromthe immortal Bard’s farces The Taming of the Shrewand The Comedy of Errors along with rousing songs from the Broadway musicals Kiss Me, Kateand The Boys from Syracuse. Dr. Silverberg, Adjunct Lecturer in Theater and English, brings her academic research to the live stage as she serves as the dramaturg and show writer. SUNY Broome alumna, Missy Harris, directs the cast, featuring SUNY Broome graduate/Theater Department staff member Hannah Merrell. Talented local favorites, The Madrigal Choir of Binghamton, English Country and Morris Dancers, harpist Lauren Floden, and dulcimer player Curt Osgoodround out the performances. Loom demonstrations, herb workshops, garden tours, and kids’ crafts also fill the day’s activities.
Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Cutler Botanic Garden, located just south of SUNY Broome on Upper Front Street, welcomes adults and children of all ages. This free event starts at 11 AMand the English Renaissance fun runs until 3 PM, rain or shine.
