The Women’s Track & Field team ended their inaugural season with a 9th place finish over the weekend in Troy at the NJCAA D III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Hudson Valley CC.

The meet saw Megan Carden pick up Broome’s first National Champion honors after placing first in the Women’s Heptathlon, also earning her First Team Field All-American status. Equally exciting was Melissa Carden’s third place finish in the Women’s 400M Hurdles over Idayat Adisa from Camden County CC out of Camden, NJ by a mere .0006 of a second, good enough for Honorable Mention Track All-American accolades. Melissa also earned Honorable Mention Field All-American honors in the Women’s Triple Jump after placing third, just missing the second place finish by .19 meters. Megan finished eighth in both the Women’s High Jump (1.39m) and the Women’s Long Jump (4.88m), the latter just .01 meters behind Melissa’s seventh place finish at 4.89 meters.

Claudia Chermak had respectable showings in the Women’s 1,500 Meters and Women’s 5,000 Meters. Chermak turned in times of 5:20.23 in the 1,500, good enough for a sixth place finish, and 22:29.97 in the 5,000 to finish in the fifth spot. Chermak also ran in the Women’s 4×400 Relay along with the Cardens and Cherise Mack, the foursome turned in a time of 4:39.81, just missing third place by a little over four seconds.

Also competing for the Hornets were Jessica Hall (20.42m), Jozzlyn Hall (17.66m) and Haley Hagerman (16.78m) in the Women’s Discus, finishing 15th, 16th and 17th.
