Maria Aponte to speak at SUNY BroomeIn celebration of Women’s History Month, SUNY Broome’s President’s Task Force on Diversity & Inclusion will present a Poetry Reading by Maria Aponte, a poet, performance artist, community arts activist and educator at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in Decker Health Sciences Room 201 on the SUNY Broome campus.

Aponte is a recipient of the International Latino Book Award and won second place for Best Autobiography at the International Latino Book Awards in L.A. She is an honoree of the Comite Noviembre award, “Lo Mejor de Nuestra Comunidad” and was a “Madrina” at El Mueso del Barrio’s 40th annual Three Kings Day Parade for her work in Latino Arts for women and diversity programming at Fordham University. Founder and president of Latina 50 Plus™, a nonprofit program honoring Latina Pioneers, Aponte was named one of the Bronx Times‘ 25 Influential Women.
