What you need to know for Welcome Week

Welcome back to SUNY Broome! The first week of classes is Welcome Week, with events that range from the informational to the just plain fun. Check out the schedule:

Saturday, Aug. 26

  • Move-In Day at the Student Village!
  • 4:30 p.m.: An “all hall” meeting for Student Village residents in the Dining Hall
  • 8 to 10 p.m.: Unwind at open gym time in the Baldwin Gym, or karaoke and snacks in the Student Village classroom.

Sunday, Aug. 27

  • Campus tours run from 11 a.m. to noon and noon to 1 p.m. Get familiar with the hive!
  • A barbecue runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at a location to be announced. Yum! Events will run alongside the barbecue, including a game truck, spikeball, slacklining, yard games, a photo booth with Stinger and more.
  • Grab a movie at 5 p.m., Hitman’s Bodyguard, across the street at Regal Cinemas.
  • Burn off some calories at open gym from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Baldwin Gym.
  • Connect with your Student Village peers at your floor meeting, which runs from 8 to 8:45 p.m.

Monday, Aug. 28

  • Questions? The Broome Crew comes to the rescue from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at information tents across campus.
  • Need help with your schedule or other issues? Visit Info Inc., run by Counseling Services, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Center lobby.
  • Spikeball runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lawn area. Show your skills.
  • Go see a Rumble Ponies baseball game at NYSEG Stadium in downtown Binghamton. You can get up to four tickets with your student ID for just $2. Purchase your tickets at the stadium, show your ID at the door and you’re in!
  • Student officer training runs from 1 to 2 p.m. in Science Building 208B.

Tuesday, Aug. 29

  • Questions? The Broome Crew comes to the rescue from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at information tents across campus.
  • Need help with your schedule or other issues? Visit Info Inc., run by Counseling Services, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Center lobby.

  • I scream, you scream, we all scream for the ice cream truck next to the windmill from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free ice cream for the first 100 people!
  • Student officer training runs from 1 to 2 p.m. in Science Building 208B.

Wednesday, Aug. 30

  • Slacklining runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lawn area. Weeeeee!
  • I scream, you scream, we all scream for the ice cream truck next to the windmill from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free ice cream for the first 100 people!
  • Head across the street to the Regional Farmers Market (yes, we have one) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for the Fresh Food Face-Off, hosted by the Cornell Cooperative Extension. This has been a wildly successful event, and SUNY Broome Dining Services is excited to join the ranks of local restaurants, bakeries, breweries and wineries offering up their best dishes made with locally sourced and locally grown products.
  • Get a Shot of Reality from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Dining Hall. This improv comedy show tackles topics such as partying, alcohol and affirmative consent — stuff you need to know about.
  • ARO, the Accessibility Resource Office, will hold an orientation from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Student Village classroom.

Thursday, Aug. 31

  • Save a life — give blood. A campus blood drive runs from 8 a.m. to noon in the Baldwin Gym.
  • Replenish yourself after giving blood with Doughnuts with the Dean! Grab your favorite doughnut and chat with the Dean of Students between 9 a.m. and noon outside the Old Science Building.
  • Slacklining runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lawn area. Weeeeee!
  • Student officer training runs from 1 to 2 p.m. in Science Building 208B.

Friday, Sept. 1

  • Save a life — give blood. A campus blood drive runs from 8 a.m. to noon in the Baldwin Gym.
  • Who let the dogs out? Bark-9, actually: They’ll be bringing some canines onto campus from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Student Center lobby.
