Wellness Wednesday out of the Counseling Corner:

In continuing the theme of Mindful Monday- we are going to ask you to incorporate some physical activity into a mindfulness activity to equal a wellness activity.

Physical activity is so important to help our overall wellness. It does not have to mean running a marathon or climbing a mountain, it can be as simple as setting a step goal for each day and then making that step goal a priority. It can be making sure you do a half an hour walk each day- rain or shine, snow or heat.

This week we are going to ask you to go for a half an hour walk. Find a place that is peaceful to you. On this walk we are going to ask you to not bring a friend for company, not call a friend to chat with while you walk- go solo.

Give it a try. Maybe put some earbuds in and set out on your way. Now it is simple- 30 minutes, some music and your mind.

Before you start take a quick assessment of how you are feeling- any anxiety, any aches, pains, worries?

  • Take note of these – but do not over think these items as you walk.
  • During the walk – think of the rainbow and as you wander- wherever you choose to go – focus on the colors of the rainbow. Starting with red and moving your way through all of the colors until you reach violet/purple.
  • As you walk – identify a color and then look around you and name in your head all of the items that you see of that color. When you reach the end of items you see of that color – move to the next color.
  • Continue to do this for the duration of your walk- you may cycle through the colors a few times.
  • At the end of the 30 minutes take that brief assessment again – check in with yourself and see how you are feeling. Any better? Any worse? What do you notice?

Practice this 1-3 times this week. Practicing wellness activities and being present, letting your mind pause for a few moments each day can help combat issues that you may be experiencing around :  Spreading Yourself Too Thin.Homesickness. Depression. Sickness/Health Conditions. Social Problems.  Relationship issues, etc.
