The passing of Professor Jacquelyn Rutherford

In Memoriam logoThe Nursing Department at SUNY Broome was saddened to learn of the death of Professor Jacquelyn Rutherford on Oct. 8, 2017, at the age of 63.

Professor Rutherford was a member of the Nursing Faculty since 2012. She was a SUNY Broome Nursing program alumna and received her AAS in Nursing in 1985. She then went on to receive her BS in Nursing from Keuka College in 2010 and her MSN in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Education from Herzing University in 2012.

Professor Rutherford was an inspiration to students and faculty alike. Her students spoke eloquently of her teaching ability. Her daughter noted, “Teaching was her passion. I cannot tell you the joy it brought her.”  She will be greatly missed.

Professor Rutherford was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Helen Hunsinger, and sister Roxanne Gilbert. She is survived by her loving husband, John Rutherford; mother-in-law, Alta Rutherford; children, Angela Delanoy-Arno & Michael Reistetter and Michele Delanoy-Barrows & Christopher Barrows, Theodore & Cynthia Hissin, Nathan Rutherford, Julie & Jim Stabler; grandchildren Eleni, Jack, Reilly, Emma, Ellie, Troy, Raegan, Asa, Summer, Maisie, Carl, Gracie and Allison; one great-granddaughter, Avery; siblings, Cheryl, Audrey, Lynn and Terry; best friend, Karla Redd; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 15, at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, NY 13901. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 pm until the time of celebration. Memorial donations can be made in Jackie’s memory to the BCC Foundation, with the Jacquelyn Rutherford Nursing Scholarship listed in the memo line, and sent to the BCC Foundation, PO Box 1017, Binghamton, NY 13902.
