A live debate between 22nd New York District Congressional candidates Claudia Tenney and Anthony Brindisi will be held at 8 p.m. Nov. 1 on WSKG-TV and WSKG Radio. SUNY Broome’s Center for Civic Engagement is excited to be a co-sponsor for this debate, which is also sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Broome and Tioga Counties, WSKG and the Apalachin Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
While the debate itself will occur at WSKG’s Vestal studio, the Center for Civic Engagement will hold a debate watch party from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the West Gym on Nov. 1, 2018. The Debate Watch Party is open to the public. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for those who would like to attend the talk on debate responses and again at 7:30 p.m. for those who only want to watch the debate.
Schedule for the Nov. 1 Debate Watch Party in the West Gym:
- 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Listen to a talk on “Enhancing Your Debate Watching Skills.” Faculty and students will present and model various techniques candidates may use to avoid direct responses to questions, as well as provide examples of clear direct responses.
- 7:30 to 8 p.m.: Participants will take a break and mingle while enjoying some pizza and beverages (water and soda).
- 8 to 9 p.m.: Participants will watch the debate. All are welcome to play our structured Debate Watch BINGO game with us.
- 9 to 9:30 p.m.: After the debate, stay for a brief dialogue.
