At the County’s donation center located at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City, SUNY Broome unloads a truckload of surplus PPE.

PPE donated by SUNY Broome

Departments all over campus joined together to donate their surplus unused PPE items to help with the shortages at local healthcare facilities. Together departments in STEM, Health Science, Facilities, and Public Safety gave a total of 8,000 gloves, 1,050 cup style masks, 750 surgical masks, 100 N95 masks and 150 gowns of all types.

SUNY Broome Environmental, Health & Safety Coordinator Hans VanHouten, who coordinated the effort, says, ” When the call for donations came from the EOC, the campus community went into action. I have been getting calls from all different areas wanting to make donations; they want to do whatever they can to help the community.”

“SUNY Broome is a community college; we are a member of the community,” said Investigator and Training Coordinator for Public Safety, Marie Finelli. “We want to make sure we do what we can to keep that community safe.”
