Jackie Robinson

The SUNY Broome Theater students and director will present “Stories of African-American Valor” during Common Hour from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Thursday, March 22, in the Angelo Zuccolo Little Theatre.

This tribute to African Americans and their culture was co-created by SUNY Broome’s teachers of Theater and Math, Katherine Bacon and Dr. Craig Jefferson, and the acting students. Find out facts you may not have known about African-American heroes such as Frederick Douglass, Muhammad Ali, Maya Angelou, Sojourner Truth, Jackie Robinson and others. The highlight is a staged reading of a play-let on the Rosa Parks bus incident in 1955 that made her a Civil Rights heroine.

AN ADDED ATTRACTION will be the outstanding drawings of some of the same African-Americans from the Beginning Drawing class taught by Associate Professor Patricia Evans. This same class recently exhibited their excellent work on the suffragettes and victims of the holocaust.

Don’t miss this important Common Hour for the history, stories and artful drawings of heroes of a great American culture. It will begin at 11 a.m. sharp in the theater located in the Student Center and will end at 11:45.
