The Performing Arts Department’s Music Program presents a wide array of end-of-semester recitals and concerts. All concerts are at 7:30 p.m. in the Angelo Zuccolo Little Theatre.

Thursday, May 18

Nationally renowned jazz saxophonist Kris Jensen will take the stage as guest artist with the SUNY Broome Community College Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Mike Dubaniewicz. General Admission is $5 for the general public, and free to faculty and students.

Jensen is associated with many prominent artists in jazz and rock including the Allman Brothers Band and its individual members’ bands (Gregg Allman and Friends, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, Dickey Betts Band), trumpet legend Maynard Ferguson and The Dave Matthews Band. Jensen keeps an active freelance performing schedule in addition to performing regularly with Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band monthly at the famous Iridium jazz nightclub in New York City, as well as festivals and venues across the nation and beyond. Moreover, his TV credits include an appearance on “Late Night with David Letterman.” As a music educator, he serves on the faculties of the Indian Mountain School, The Salisbury School, The Millbrook School and in Hartford, CT with the Bushnell “Jazzicians” student scholar program.

With Jensen, the SUNY Broome Jazz Ensemble will be performing compositions of Thad Jones, Count Basie and Bob Curnow. Dr. Mike Dubaniewicz calls Jensen “one of the most creative forces on the music scene today….”

Monday, May 22
The SUNY Broome Guitar Ensemble presents its Spring concert.  The program will include a variety of pieces played by the 10-member group, ranging from chorale settings by J.S. Bach to two compositions by Director Paul Sweeny. Other performances will include solos by outstanding Guitar Applied students and various duets, trios, and a quartet featuring students and Professor Sweeny.
