SUNY Broome Theater and the Department of Performing Arts present a reading of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Bells” on Halloween day! Performed by the Acting One class, the reading will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. The 5-minute poem will be performed three times during the 50-minute Common Hour, beginning at 10 minutes after the hour.

“The students in the Acting One class are from across the disciplines, not just theater students. Some are from Health Sciences, Viscom, Communications, etc.  They chose to do this reading to practice and show their performance skills collaboratively,” said Associate Professor and theater director Katherine Bacon. “We are proud to present this famous poem written at the end of Poe’s short, tragic life and not published until after his death in 1849. It has inspired a number of composers including a choral symphony by Sergei Rachmaninoff and was referenced by Pink Floyd in their song Time. For our reading we are happy to have electronic musical accompaniment by Music Assistant Professor of Sound Engineering, Eric Sheffield,” she said.

That’s Halloween Day, October 31 at Common Hour, 11 a.m., in The Angelo Zuccolo Little Theater.
