See ‘Fools’ at SUNY Broome’s Little Theatre Nov. 16 and 17

SUNY Broome Theater students rehearse 'Fools'Join SUNY Broome’s Theater program this Thursday and Friday, Nov. 16 and 17, for a production of Neil Simon’s Fools. The curtain is at 7:30 p.m. and the show ends by 9 p.m. at the Angelo Zuccolo Little Theatre, located in the SUNY Broome Student Center.

This is a lesser known play of the famous author of landmark works such as The Odd Couple, The Sunshine Boys, Lost In Yonkers and Sweet Charity, but it received rave reviews when first produced on Broadway in 1981.

The play is a fable about a master teacher who has landed a great job in a Russian hamlet only to find out that an old curse has everyone in the town suffering from chronic stupidity — and it’s the schoolteacher’s job to break the curse! The play includes a folksy love story inside a fairy tale plot and has every kind of comedy from old-time vaudeville jokes to farce, as well as colorful characters and plenty of comedic twists and turns. SUNY Broome Theater students rehearse 'Fools'

Students involved in a theater production, and especially a comedy, learn not only the skills that can bring them work on stage, TV and film, but also help develop the qualities of empathy, collaboration, seeing multiple perspectives, problem-solving and how we are all more alike than we are different.

So please set your calendars to attend this evening of fun. Reservations can be made at 778-5191.
