Coronavirus News and Local Actions

At this time, there are still no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Broome County.

Today, Governor Cuomo announced a regional approach to combating the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) throughout the tri-state area (NY, NJ, and Connecticut). The approach aligns with CDC recommendations and will go into effect at 8pm this evening. The standards are as follows:

  • Limit crowd capacity for recreational and social gatherings to 50 people.
  • Restaurants and bars will close for on-premise service and move to take-out and delivery.
  • Movie theaters, casinos, and gyms will temporarily close.

This uniform approach to social distancing is meant to slow the spread of the virus.

NYS has also provided guidance in reference to updated state employee protocols who report symptoms of illness associated with the COVID-19 virus. Read more about the protocols here: http://news.sunybroome.edu/buzz/employee-testing-and-evaluation-protocols-for-covid-19/

Reminders for Health and Safety Precautions

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) continues to recommend hand washing and social distancing as the most effective ways to prevent illness and spreading of the virus. Social distancing is an action intended to slow down or stop the spread of contagious infections. Distancing of at least 6 feet away is recommended.
