Professional Development at SUNY Broome

Join Sandy Wright, Jen Musa and Maria Bajwa to learn about the goals, the process, and the benefits of a Sunshine Fund Grant. The Sunshine Fund Grant was established to provide funding for cross disciplinary projects and has been very successful in its first two years.

The first such grant was awarded for the Bridge to Haiti Extension project in which Business Information Technology, Biology, and Dental Hygiene faculty created a “train the trainer” program for expanding computer literacy courses in Haiti. Funds were used to pay a small stipend to SUNY Broome adjuncts and to provide internet services in Haiti. Through the grant, the program has grown to include the participation of 90 additional SUNY Broome students per year and the establishment of new adult classes in Haiti.

The current grant recipients are building an Electronic Health Records simulation for use in Nursing, Health Information Technology, and Business Information Technology classes. Funds were used to purchase four new Wows (workstations on wheels) for the nursing labs, video cameras for simulation training, and a teacher station for development and presentation of lessons.

The goal of this workshop is to share our process for working collaboratively to develop and implement proposals, to answer your questions about the process, and to stimulate conversation and ideas for further collaboration across campus.
