Focus on Accomplishments logoThe Society for the Teaching of Psychology recognizes Dr. William S. Altman, professor in the Psychology and Human Services Department at SUNY Broome, as the recipient of the 2018 Wayne Weiten Teaching Excellence Award.

This award recognizes faculty at 2-year colleges who demonstrate excellence in teaching, coupled with bolstering student learning and advancing psychology as an applied science. Dr. Altman is recognized for creatively leveraging sound pedagogical practices and innovative teaching strategies to help students find personal meaning in psychology course content.

Beyond the confines of the classroom, Dr. Altman provides valuable mentoring and advising not only to his students, but also for teaching assistants and early career psychology faculty. His scholarship and workshops for students and teachers promote effective learning and teaching methods.  His scholarly products and presentations have advanced the field of the scholarship of teaching and learning both with their content, and his infectious enthusiasm for his craft.
