“Designing and Composing for Interdependent Collaborative Performance with Physics-Based Virtual Instruments”

This dissertation work began with an examination of how musicians have created physical and electronic systems in which multiple performers coordinate their actions to produce collective outcomes on a single device. Further research lead to the development of three new virtual collaborative instruments and accompanying compositions realized using physics-based synthesis techniques.
