Peer tutors are an integral part of academic services at SUNY Broome, helping Hornets ace subjects they may otherwise find difficult. Carolina knows this firsthand. A tutor aided this international student during her first year at SUNY Broome, and now she’s paying it forward as a tutor herself.

A student in the SUNY Broome Honors Program, Zak is also deeply involved in campus life. His current project: restarting a campus newspaper, the first in at least a decade. What is his impression of the Honors Program? “All the Honors courses I’ve had, they’re elevated more than other classes in terms of coursework,” he said.

Stephie isn’t afraid to test herself, which is why she decided to enroll in the academically challenging Honors Program at SUNY Broome. “I was very interested in the opportunity to challenge myself,” she said. “It is definitely a challenging course load, and also an opportunity to stay on track.”
Why did Nick choose to join the Honors Program? “I wanted to challenge myself and I heard the class sizes were smaller,” explained the dual major in Engineering Science and Mathematics. “I learn in an environment better when there are fewer students and I can ask questions.”
When it’s all done, the new SUNY Broome Culinary Arts and Events Center will feature amenities including garde manger and production kitchens, state-of-the-art classroom space, a fabrication lab for the Events Management program, a fully equipped beverage lab for mixology classes, a full-dining room, a computer lab, a state-of-the-art lecture hall for cooking demonstrations, office space, student lounges and a proposed community education cooking studio — along with historic charm.
Dr. Kristina M. Johnson outlined a series of initiatives that will enable The State University of New York to meet major societal challenges at this critical juncture in history, as she was officially inaugurated the 13th Chancellor of SUNY on Sept. 14.
