Eating cotton candy at the Student Village block party

By Brandon Shimer, Student Village Resident Assistant

The Student Village held its second annual block party for residents on April 29, 2019.

The block party had all hands on deck to ensure its perfect execution. RA Christian G was the deejay, while Student Activities offered cotton candy and popcorn, RA Brandon S and RA Faith M manned the tie-dye station, and RA Josh B and RA Gabe W were cooking the night away.

Numerous other RAs were scattered around, performing other duties to help keep the event moving. In total, 215 to 230 residents came out and danced, ate and partied the night away, along with off-campus students.

Residents had a blast and enjoyed every part of the event. The lines for food stretched longer and longer as the night went on. Everything from hamburgers to chicken wings sizzled their way into everyone’s stomachs until the sun went down. Residents laughed and jumped in and out of the double-dutch ropes. Too many colors to count were poured into every last shirt purchased for the tie-dye booth. Every turn someone would take, they would see another dancer or another group sitting around pleasantly loving the atmosphere.

I would like to finish this off by giving a few thank-you to some important individuals for ensuring this program was a success. Thank you, Sandra Stephens and Jason Boring from Student Activities for helping to continue to support all the endeavors at the Student Village. Thank you Public Safety for making sure we all had a safe and wonderful environment to enjoy ourselves. The block party was a successful program that brought the entire village together.
