Globe with a magnifying glassThrough the Broome Community College Foundation, SUNY Broome is excited to offer a Beyond the Classroom Scholarship. This scholarship provides funding opportunities for students interested in participating in faculty-led programs that include an extensive travel component. We encourage all students who are planning to register for the programs listed below to apply!

Eligible faculty-led programs:

  • BIO/HST 104 Global Service Learning in Haiti – Winter Term
  • BIO 200 Ecology: The Everglades – Winter Term
  • BIO 215 Tropical Ecology in Costa Rica – Spring Semester
  • BIO 293 Darwin, Evolution and the Victorians – Spring Semester
  • LIT 275W London and Literature – Spring Semester
  • LIT 277 Irish Literature – Spring Semester (TENTATIVE)
  • BIO 217 Ecology of the National Parks – Summer Term

Deadline to submit applications is 4 p.m. Nov. 20, 2018 (Winter/Spring programs). (Summer/Fall program deadline to be announced later.)

Beyond The Classroom Scholarship Application Information:

    • Academic Criteria

 

  • Minimum GPA of 2.7
  • Must be a current SUNY Broome student
  • Financial Criteria

 

      • A “statement of financial need” not required, but may be submitted for positive consideration

 

  • Additional Eligibility Criteria
  • Candidates must be United States citizens, permanent resident aliens and New York State residents
  • Those nominated from underrepresented and low-income categories may receive positive consideration
  • Documentation Required
  • An application form
  • At least one faculty, administrator, or academic department recommendation letter and an accompanying Academic Reference Form

 

    • Student essay (1-2 pages) describing what they hope to achieve through their chosen Faculty Led Program
