Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s celebration of survivorship and community. It is a unique activity that brings our community together to participate in the fight against cancer. The Relay For Life of Binghamton is an overnight walk/run. Teams form and take turns walking/running around the track.
Please mark your calendar for June 28 & 29, 2013 and begin to rally your friends, family and/or co-workers to join us in our fight against cancer. Relay For Life begins at 6 pm on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Broome Community College with the Survivor and Caregiver Lap. The Relay For Life features a Luminary Ceremony beginning at 10 pm when thousands of candles are lit in honor of those who have survived cancer and in memory of those who have lost their battle.
Because Relay For Life is a community event, anyone and everyone can participate. Teams come from businesses, clubs, families, friends, hospitals, churches, schools and service organizations. These people share a common purpose – their support of the American Cancer Society’s mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.
Why is Relay For Life important?
Relay For Life is held in over 6,200 communities nationwide and has grown to encompass cancer-fighting organizations in several countries outside the USA. Relay For Life is truly a worldwide movement! Relay For Life has emerged as the American Cancer Society’s premier community outreach program, bringing together volunteers and community support, further increasing our ability to fight cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
- With participants and sponsor donations, the 2012 Relay For Life of Binghamton, raised over $152,000. This year’s Relay hopes to bring even more people together in this fight. The support and involvement of our community and its many volunteers and donors is what makes this event such a success.
