Children's Fair logoJoin us from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, for the 38th annual SUNY Broome Children’s Fair in the college’s Student Center.

The event is free, although donations for the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse will be accepted. Sponsors include the SUNY Broome Teacher Education/Early Childhood Department, BAE Systems, the Binghamton Chapter of the NYAEYC, the BECA (Broome Educators of Children Association) Student Club and the Literacy Legacy Project (LLP).

April is recognized as the “Month of the Young Child” by the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This year’s Children’s Fair theme, “Things that Go: Bus Extravaganza,”  is in conjunction with the LLP’s One Book initiative Preschool Program sponsored by BAE Systems. Prior to the Children’s Fair, all 4-year-old children enrolled in a preschool program across the county will receive a copy of the book The Bus for Us by Suzanne Bloom.

Families are invited to join in celebrating children by enjoying an interactive, fun-filled family day with hands-on activities created by SUNY Broome Teacher Education/Early Childhood Education students. Big trucks, police cars, snowplows, fire trucks and Chenango Gymnastics will be on hand for the children to interact with as well. The event also includes child safety seat inspections, the Child-Safe Program and other community exhibits that support our theme and activities, and touchable transportation described in The Bus for Us.

Nutritious and very low-cost lunches and snacks will also be available for your convenience!  As well, there will be a basket raffle whose proceeds will support the BC Center, the on-campus daycare center.
